The University of Utah Hospitals and Clinics provide care to nearly 900,000 patients each year from Utah and the Intermountain West. University Hospital is accredited as a quaternary care facility by the Joint Committee on the Accreditation of Health Care Organizations, the organization which evaluates and accredits hospitals in the United States. The Hospital is the first Level 1 Trauma Center designated by the American College of Surgeons in the region. Because of the University of Utah’s ability to provide the full spectrum of care in every specialty area 24 hours a day, University Hospital is the primary referral center for the entire region - particularly for the most critical and complex cases.
Since 1965, University Hospital has been the flagship of the University of Utah Health Sciences Center. Through outreach, education, and emergency services, the University of Utah Hospitals and Clinics reach out to serve communities throughout Utah, Nevada, Idaho, Wyoming and Montana. But the University of Utah Health Sciences Center is more than an internationally recognized leader in medical research. As the only academic medical center in the region, the hospital trains and employs the physicians, nurses and health professionals of the future who will care for you, your family, and your friends.
Many people are surprised to learn that less than 1% of University Hospital’s budget comes from state funds. However, the community has done much to support University Hospital. Donors large and small to University Hospital Foundation fund programs that assist patients and their families, purchase equipment, and build modern facilities that improve patient care. When these many charitable gifts are combined, great things are accomplished!
