Natalie West RN, SICU
My Father is a surgeon. When he was a resident here at the University of Utah, I used to round with him as a little girl. When I was 18, I was involved in a car accident and had a lacerated liver. My time in the hospital helped me to understand what an amazing role nurses play in health care and led me to choose nursing as a career.
I want to go the extra mile for my patients and their families. I try to put myself in their position and explain things to them. I provide continuity of care by serving as the liaison between the patient, family, and physicians. I have time for them - that’s why I’m here. These are simple things, but I don’t know if they are said enough in health care.
Nursing makes or breaks a hospital visit. I get to make a difference for patients and families every shift.
